Source: Journey through Genius: The Great Theorems of Mathematics by William DunhamEdition: Paperback Price: $10.88 Availability: In Stock My comments: I read this book in Korean, which I rent from the city library. When I read for the first, I thought that this book is somehow difficult since he includes many geographical figures but finally, I realized that this book is easy to read and to understand. By reading this book I had a great pleasure to me, in contrast to general mathematical books. As you said, he has great enthusiasm on Euclid geographic which have taught my mind up to now.

The flowing emotional based mathematical skill can be what 21st century society requires. We could have more than one extraordinary skill which can not catch up quickly by others.

Wireless System Modeling

Noise modeling n 1 , ..., n NK are independent complex Gaussian noise terms with unit variance Fading Modeling We consider a block fading channel with iid Rayleigh fading from block to block. The channel coefficients are iid complex Gaussian with unit variance.

Downlink Beamforming

In wireless communications, either more spectrum or higher spectral efficient communication technologies can increase the data rate, which enables to service various multimedia contents. Since frequency spectrum is a natural resource, it is inherently limited so that it costs very high. Therefore, it is very important to find highly spectral efficient communication technologies. However, new good technologies requires higher complexity in terms of development, installation and so on. Therefore, our research goal is either to optimize the current technology and to find a new innovative technology. Beamforming is a scheme to overcome the limitation of the spectrum resource. Beamforming is used for spatial division multiple access which increases the system throughput by spatially diving multiple user signals. Spatially diving let multiple users communicate simultaneously in a same frequency band. When beamforming is applied for the downlink transmission, we call it as downlink beamform

True tree diagram for mind-map

Image
Tree diagram, or mind map, has been used for many areas including research, business, study. One of example programs to build tree diagrams is Freemind which is easy to use. While I use freemind, I suddenly felt that Freemind is needed to be upgrade with a new feature. Remind that tree diagrams in Freemind resembles not full structure but only a half part of a full tree. Recent half tree form mindmaps are convenient to show various divided facts effectively. However, it is not very effective to analyze facts and to tell a story about associated actions. Now, I propose the following new usage of tree based mind-map:

The gloomy fact

Do you fall in love? Scientists analyzed the brain whose fell in love to know why they feel good when they love by MRY. In conclusion, scientists found out that three part of the brain have a brisk response. One is the area of ventral tegmental that is down part of the brain. Here, it makes dopamine a kind of hormone. The reason why the delicious cooking smell makes our mouth water is that dopamine is activating. However, if only ventral tegmental activates, you can not continue to love. Also, it is problem to find new love only in ecstasies by dopamine. Therefore there is the nucleus accmbens that prevents you from bing with rapture and is a little front of upper part of ventral tegmental. This tingling feeling that originates from ventral tegmental delivers over here, at that time serotonin and oxytocin kinds of hormone have a response together and stimultaneously of the two, oxytocin plays the key role to bind firmly. In brain, the last settlement of the feeling love is caudate

Missing Lester Young~~

I am a sort of Jazz fan. So to speak, I am interested in traditional Jazz played earlier than 'Bitches Brew' of Miles David. My favorate is Lester young who was called as 'Prez'(derives from president of Jazz) in 1930s through 1950s. Days ago, I stopped by a CD shop to buy one of his masterpieces. However, He seemed to be so old-fashioned that his booth disapeared. People don't know how beautiful classical Jazz is! His blowing is romantic and elegant so as to captivate us. I compared his playing with Coleman Hawkins who was the most popular saxophonist in 1930s, at the same time, remained the legend even now. Lester young's tone is relaxed, cool and quitely soft while Coleman hawkins is full of being masculine and powerful in his atmosphere. On listening Young's playing, I was fascinated with his music. His album changed my fixed idea over timber of tenor saxophone. It sounded a poem or an ode. I could imagine that I was under the sunny side when I listened

Cognitive dissonance

The term 'Cognitive dissonance' was created by Leon Festinger, a social psychologist and professor, in 1957. He infiltrated into an eschatological religious group which were waiting for doomsday caused by 'Great flood'. They seemed to trust in a leader's direction sincererly. However, the last day supposed to perish didn't come. Festinger expected believers to get angry against their head of the group. But followers didn't show a wrath against the leader rather than they were relieved with no happening. Festinger recognized that human beings usually are skillful to deceive themselves to expel from unpleasant, irrational experience. To speak, we can't put up with our being weak or shabby enough to be hurted by other people and specific situaltions. On the contrary, we want to give an excuse not to violent against normal social system and strongly deny our wrong behavior or belief. It is really convenient system for our mental health. We are ready to defen

He declares 'God is not great'

Born in UK, Christopher Hitchens, 56, was chosen as the 5th most world-wide intellectual by professional readers conducted by 2 political and diplomatic magazines last year. He is following Noam Chomsky, Umberto Eco, Richard Dawkins and Vaclav Havel. He has been staying in America since 1980s and writing columns titling 'Minority Report' in 'The Nations'. He became generally known for the author of 'Hostage to History', 'For the Sake of Argument', 'The Missionary Position' and so on. Recently, he is also acknowledged politically being a sort of 'Neocon', after continuously criticizing left-wing of Anglo-America and Islamic fundamentalism. I am reading his book 'God is not Great', dealing with lots of gods and godness all over the world since the prehistoric age. Of cource, he mainly focuses on 2 big powers, 'Christianity' and 'Islam'. As an atheist and meterialist together with Richard Dawkins( Actually, I am sure

'I believe in love'

This year, the Lee sang short story Award fell on Yeuseun Guen who wrote ' I believe in Love'. We can also taste other's short stories through 'representative works of the Lee sang Literature award' which was made to be in memory of Lee Sang since 1971. This omnibus book has Korean readers paid attention to its laureats and candidates every new year. Yeuseun Guen who was born in 1965, belongs to 386 generation, lost her beloved friend in the vortex of political resistance 1n 1980s have shown the very meaningful writing recently. The recipient's style was regarded as being cynical, sharp and violent, in spite of having polite access to her object. She disguised not to be interested in everything. She steals a walk on an observed person and let us hear bitten and sour stories. I guess she believes in love. Her characters in this story are seemingly doubtful of desirable humane relationship. We usually go against with each other, even if there are lots

From Insa-Dong

I went Insa-Dong yesterday to look around the photo galleries. These days, we have an exbibition called 'Wake Up' hosted by Kimyoungseup Gallery. And also Gallery Lux, Gallery Now were following Kim youngseup the most renowned photo gallery. In fact, Photograph was considered as applied or secondary one, not a serious field of fine art even years ago. Of course, there are great photographers such as Andres Serrano, Euge'ne Atget, Ansel Adams, Bill Brandt, Gyula halasz Brassai, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eanst Hssa and so on who dedicated themselves to the considerable and insightful photo art history. By virtue of their devotion to this realm, we think of photo as a big part of fine art. Futher more, even conventional artists have expanded their domains into being more adventurous and experimental, with have photo, fabric or any other objet put in their frames. Technics and Phenomenon which painting invades the territory of photo and vice versa are not strange to u

In the middle of 3GPP meeting...

Nowadays, I have attended 3GPP meetings. It has been 3rd times since I first go abroad to join 3GPP in Shannhai last October. It is because the 3GPP is the end of its period that I become to think that the standardization is not quiet related to 'Advanced Research Area'. There are so many topics even in only RAN1 area. However, when it comes to the research topics in SAIT, only the very small area in RAN1 is related to what we have been doing in SAIT. Most topics discussed here are signaling issues related to controling format, how to report CQI/PMI, and rank something like that. These are quiet 'Standardization Issue', not the research issues what we have beending doing in SIAT. Before I leave Korea, my senior boss, VP asked me to remind the purpose of the business trip. However, whenever I have presentation for the business trip in front of him, he asked me more than I could and more than someone could get from 3gpp RAN1 standard meeting. I'm nowadays quiet confus

'China town' cooperating with mid-1970s

Let me think about my favorite. One of them is 'China town' directed by Roman Polanski in 1974. Faye Dunaway and Jack Nicholson were starring in this movie. I watched this again in 10 year. Its story seemed to be gloomy as well. Jerry Goldstein's music also made me dreary over the film. I didn't want to encounter this again. However I was drawn by it automatically as some metal would access to magnet. Faye Dunaway went back her hay day when she functioned as 'Femme fatale' apart from her recent movie 'Bar fly' that let me stunned. We can guess Roman Polanski must have been pessimistic when he took this moving picture which was made just after his wife's death murdered by Charles Manson the false religious leader. If everything had been fine around Polanski, This movie might have had a less desolate or dismal end. But it was in the mid-1970s when America was about to consider the military withdrawal and had no choice but to accept of the defeat from s

Find your flow

Does immersion lead us to better life? Csikszentmihalyi, the author of 'finding flow', says that's right. People usually think superficially that we would be happy when we are provided with enough time and money. However I would feel ill at easy even when I listen to music, read books or take a trip, theraphies which are generally advised to busy persons. I know the reason why. The reason is because I do not like those activities much . On the contrary, I feel worthless on myself when I just spend my time on passive fields and consuming jobs. Some people wish spare time to kill much more than now since they suffer from short time and hard work. Probably, they would be satisfied for hours or even days. However, sometimes, we get lost ourselves in the middle of complicated intersections, not figuring out where the right direction is. Everyone put their own gravity or importance on a different scale. Each one has so various capacity or size as to emphasize on different concept

FLUXUS Group

Fluxus means the flow, continuous change, move in Latin. It is a international Avant-garde art movement which extended over 1960-1970. George Maciunas created the term 'Fluxus' as the tiltle of magazine in 1962 for the purpose to acknowledge the trend refusing the traditional art form or style. Fluxus tried to be apart from the art market, mechanical style or physical aggregation. Instead, it is more psychological and liberal art group, pursuing bohemian freedom than working together for a same target. It was not a systemic organization but a sort of timely remarks for individual or outsider. It started in German and spreaded to Japan, other European countries and America. This movement caused the interchange without border and genre. Conseqently, this groups started to form various art styles and affected to genres such as concertos, events, publications and so on later. However, generally, this was a genre-free, country-free movement and tried to develop more ideal and bigger

Cooperating with the future

These days, we more think our idea is being formed by others than the past. If your blog have been popular or sensational, you must have welcome lots of visitors everyday. Sometimes, they may remain their ideas or explanatory information to your blog. Of course, you cooperate with them unconsciously or consciously so that you can produce a new blue print. Despite our being shyness, we are exposed to the heavily populated world inside web. We can meet new faces, exchange information, create ideas, which these elements may help us make new business or knowledge. We can enjoy surfing the net everyday and checking necessary information. These activities make us cleverer and smarter than before. We seem to be a sort of a world citizen in times. Subsequently, we can't help refusing the power of web. Recently, I heard from a friend that he would immerse himself online much more and open himself toward the sea of the Internet. However, I worry he may be absorbed by this technology which is

2008 is the 4F's year

I, James, predict that 2008 is the 4F year. 4 is the perfect number among all natural numbers. 4F consists of feeling, fiction, female and freeture-free future. 3F that consists of feeling, fiction, female has been mentioned by John Naisbitt , the author of 'Mind set', so that I added freeture since free based future wise thinking is the more important key word than ever. Jim Jarmusch & Murakami Haruki

Even ten years ago, I had considered Jim Jarmusch & Murakami Haruki as being eternal young men. Recently, I came to take a look at their latest pictures. And they are not any more fresh in their appearance and of course not in their works. The name of Murakami Haruki itself has meant me youth, emptiness, nihility, vacancy since the late of 1980s. He swept the Korean reading public as well as Japanese readers. When I read his book 'Norwegian wood' 1n 1988, I also decided to be his fan forever. He had insightful and heeling ability to soothe forlorn young men who were embarrassed with new world where was about to start to be called post modernism or post industrial society. All of a sudden, How strange and unfamiliar our world looked. He had been a representative of all the wandering soul. Whenever his books were translated into Korean version, I was willing to be a busy reader. Until now, I like his book 'Hardboiled wonderland and the end of the world' which has real

Jeff Koons and Ciciolina as Kitsch artists

Do you know about Jeff Koons? He is famous for showing 'Kitsch art' to the viewer since 1990s. These days, his works are paid attention by collectors and critics over the world. In spite of some of his works being really dirty and filthy, Jeff Koons is considered as reliable artist in art price or quality among living contemporary artists. Today, I want to say a serial photos called 'Made in heaven' which is acknowledged as, in fact, pornography. I wonder whether or not this set of photos belongs to fine art like Mattew Barney who are dealing with similar themes. Because these series are surprisingly so obscene and nasty that we doubt our eyes in front of them how and why he took pictures. These photos would be displayed or shown under the note saying 'Adults Only' even in galleries or auctions. Two models are an artist himself and his ex-wife Cicciolina who was a porno star and Italian congress member. I will show their works below. Fantastic! Now they divorced

A gem in our life

Did I have a gem in my life? Sadly speaking, I didn't. Since I was a young girl, I've never had a dream to do. I just have ambiguously tried to survive in this world for myself. Life seemed to vague and translucent. I am always in want of more ability to make friends and keep up with the trend. The reason why I felt so impressed by Michelangelo Antonioni's movies is due to their emptiness and desolation. On watching them, I came to know, unconciously, at once that he was depicting my own stories. I must have lacked a gene to love someone and to be loved by others like main characters in these movies. Regardless of being old, I become enchanted with many things differently from Confucius who announced the free from vacilation at the age of 40. On the contray, I'd rather enjoy my being tempted by men, friends, art, music and so on. Recently, I like one man who gives the special inspiration beside himself. He is unique, full of passion and a little bit out of his mind. And

Blog Star

In Korea, there was a very famous movie whoes title is 'Radio star'. The main actor lives very similar life to me. He got very famous award as a singer when he was young. We couldn't forget the honor in our young and active ages even though our period had gone.

Art gallery and Auction

The tradition of Korean art gallery is very short and shallow, let alone auction. It is known that the beginning of gallery started from 1900 in Seoul. However, it is true the gallery under the modern meaning opened after 1960s in Korea. Even though the history is somewhat poor compared with western part, we can't ignore the right function of the gallery : the exhibition, the sale of art works, the support for artists, the education for viewers and the like. The association of galleries must have been proud of its dedication to Korean art market and art level. It have connected collectors to artists and tried to show the high standard to the public. Above all, it had no an enemy or a rival to compete with for a long time. At last it had a competitor : Art auction. Seoul auction appeared in 1998 and K-auction in 2005. Since then, galleries tended to lose its place as a main post of its field while auctions became healthy and obese. Instead, the auction started to encroach on the te

About Korean Art Auction

Now, we welcome the boom of Korean art market. Differently from the past, many people are concerned with buying art works or art itself. We attribute the skyrocketing of interest mainly to art auction. In spite of side effect of an excessive heat in the market, we can't deny people started to pay attention to art by virtue of the auction. Given that some think of art just as an object of investment or speculation, this overheated phenomenon of the market is interesting no longer. However, at the same time we can't not but accept its right function: The audience focus on art at any rate. We have never had the time before which art was considered as one of big issue in our society. Every day painters are introduced in newspapers and broadcasting news. Some of them are regarded as great stars and their works change new records in price. We just had only one-Seoul Auction- even before 2005 when K- Auction started its industry from. And this year we came to have more auctions such

True Longtail Rule

True longtail rule is the combined rule of longtail and 1% rules. This rule is the technical and economical rule.

Gauss's theorem

Sometimes, the principle of ecosystem extends to the object-economy theory. Gauss's theorem is a representative strategy of competition which borrows the fundamental truth within ecosystem . Today, I will give you an explanation about Gauss's theorem. Gauss, a Russian scientist, conducted two experiments. First, he put two animals in same space whose family was same but species were different. Their nest was conditioned to have insufficient food. He observed what would be going on inside the small room. Despite occasional quarreling, two animals managed to survive, sharing short meal. Second, he performed an identical test of same family and same species. However the result was completely different. They fought severely and knocked to death each other. Gauss called this phenomenon the survival principal by differentiation. The more similar they are, the more they fight. Consequently, being alike demands intensive competition among contestants. For additional knowledge, there is

The nature of cooperation

Yesterday night, a friend told that people usually cooperate well with an new comer or unfamiliar person rather than an intimate neighbor. It reminded me of one Korean proverb : I am jealous of neighbor´s success or An envious man waxes with the fatness of his neighbor. The more we appreciate these witty remarks, the more we are disappointed with selfishness of human being. So, some people tend to be pessimistic about a cooperative attitude between A & B. If we always have a competitive spirit to the core, is cooperating just false? Another friend had an answer. His view point is very clear and accurate. He announced that we should accept the jealousy within people. However, since we are based on a sense of selfishness, we try to maintain the peaceful achievement. Because,we do not want to harm the job or the relationship we are related to. And he said it will open the way to a cooperation. I think second friend also took a gloomy view about people. But he has an ability to transfo

Network MIMO

What is network MIMO?

Cooperation for wireless network

Up to now, wireless networks has been developed to make users compete each other. For instant, the user scheduler in the cellular network selects the user whose wireless channel is the best of all. Therefore, each user report his status as accurate as possible. He doesn't care other user when he report his channel quality. Even though his channel is good, if he continuously report his good channel quality, the other use whose channel is worse will receives much lower speed data. Consider the case the high quality user becomes in bad condition, his receiving performance will be also bad. Therefore, we need some cooperation to avoid this phenomena. One emerging way to avoid this inequality is to use cooperative diversity.

Competition vs. Cooperation

Competition has been important for development up to now. However, humans who are able to cooperate with others were always better than ones who are not in terms of his success. Cooperation is not easy task for human being since we are always selfish. However, wise-man knows that cooperation will give much more gain than always to be in the competition mode.
